3:33⅓ - Kings Go Forth - High on Your Love
I have no idea if anyone reads this little corner of my very popular website. I talk about records I play on Jazz88. I got to do some nice podcast listening this morning. Specifically I checked out the BK-One episodes of Brother Ali’s podcast “The Travellers”. It’s produced by Bk-One, who I’m also a fan of. He spent years traveling with Brother Ali and from time to time he would use me to provide some special bass lines for Brother Ali’s touring show. I checked out part one of the episode where Ali had BK on as a guest and I have to say I was just blown away by how deep BK-One is in a lot of music related pursuits. I know he takes his shit very seriously. He’s the type of dude where if you’re going to play on his record, he’s going to pay you even if he knows it’s a labor of love. On top of that, he’ll want to have a meeting before the session just to “go over things”. He takes his shit serious. He also not only launched a radio station (KRSM), I also believe he is largely responsible for the low power FM radio revolution in the Twin Cities. Anywho, I always thought of him as a DJ with a music background. But I didn’t understand how advanced he had gotten as a vibraphone player in high school. On top of that, his whole conversation reminded me of the magic vibe of Milwaukee and the great music that has come out of that city. Pretty amazing. So I went and hunted down a record that features Andy Noble on it. Andy Noble is a real connector in the Milwaukee scene and if I understand correctly I think BK might’ve played in a band with a brother of Andy Noble’s in high school. Awesome podcast, awesome stuff and great to hear this music on the radio. Milwaukee rules, radio rules. I played “Kings go Forth” today on Jazz88.
