3:33⅓ - Kings Go Forth

I like music that is a little wrong. If you are just a perfect, unbelievable Fela type band that embodies that vibe I will appreciate you, I will agree it’s the jam. But I won’t give it as many spins as the group that brings a little bit of something outside of the Fela world into the Fela world. Maybe it’s violin, maybe it’s a couple ballads that are tear-jerkers, but I like something that pulls something away from being completely normal. And for me, Kings Go Forth, absolutely delivered. Out of the whole Antibalas, Dap-Kings, El Michels Affair world of incredible players. . .there’s something I like best about this scrappy Milwaukee group that only made one record. Their music sticks to my ribs. That’s why I’m playing it today on Jazz88. What a treat. Good but trying session with the therapist today. DOING THE WORK. STRUGGLING WITH DOING THE WORK. I just want to be done thinking about my childhood. But your childhood is so central to your life, you can’t just elect to stop exploring it. You have to resolve it. DOING THE WORK. STRUGGLING WITH DOING THE WORK.
